Find the right level for your next session
Use this guide to describe your current ability for a SnowElite private lesson, camp, clinic or instructor training. Choose the level that reflects what you can do consistently today, rather than the level you hope to reach.
Choosing the right level allows us to recommend a suitable session and plan for your safety. If you are between levels, choose the lower one. If you are unsure, contact us.
SnowElite Snowsports Levels: for private lessons, camps and clinics.
SnowElite Collective Pathway: for structured training and instructor preparation.
These levels apply to all recreational lessons, camps and clinics, whether private or group, in alpine skiing, telemark, snowboarding and other snowsports disciplines.
Each level reflects your ability to control speed, link turns, and handle varied terrain.
First time on snow.
I am new to snowsports, or have only tried it briefly. I am learning to move on snow, control my speed to a stop, use basic lifts, and link my first turns on green slopes.
Able to link basic turns (snowplow on skis) on green runs.
I am gaining control of my speed with rhythm and confidence and may be ready to explore easy blue runs.
Controlled turns on blue runs (parallel on skis) and starting on red runs.
I handle moderate slopes with stability and control. I am beginning to carve and am developing better balance, timing, and edge control (pole use on skis).
Confident on red runs and starting to explore black terrain.
I can carve at moderate speed, perform short turns, and handle steeper sections, easy bumps, and mixed snow with control.
Confident on black runs and off piste.
I handle steeps, bumps, and off piste with precision. I adapt easily to changing snow and terrain and may be training for personal performance, racing, or instructor development.
Choosing the correct level is essential for your safety, your learning, and the overall quality of the session. This applies to both private and group bookings.
The SnowElite Collective offers structured training in selected destinations for skiers and riders working toward instructor qualifications or developing their skills. Our training is designed to support progression toward the quality standards set by the International Ski Instructors Association (ISIA). The stages below describe skiing ability. If you ride or train in another discipline, contact us to discuss which stage fits.
Each stage includes focused technical coaching, video feedback, and movement training across varied terrain. You can join at any stage that matches your current level of skiing and teaching experience.
For strong recreational skiers exploring the path toward becoming an instructor.
I focus on developing technical understanding, learning basic drills, and discovering how instructors move, demonstrate, and think. A first step before entering Level 1 Prep.
This level requires confident skiing on groomed terrain as a minimum; stronger ability is welcome.
Train to teach beginners and people skiing for the first time.
I am aiming for my first instructor qualification. I will work on my technical consistency and begin learning to structure safe beginner lessons. Demos, movement analysis, and progression basics are introduced.
The minimum requirement is confident parallel skiing on red runs; I may already ski more dynamically.
Teaching and skiing across intermediate terrain.
I can ski with flow and control on red runs and am working toward more dynamic carving and short turns. I will learn to teach students at a range of levels, read terrain, and refine my feedback and demos.
Confident control on red runs is the minimum; more advanced ability is welcome.
Advanced skiing and teaching readiness.
I am training for skiing at expert level. This includes bumps, steeps, carving at speed, and off piste readiness. My teaching is starting to cover advanced coaching and movement adaptation.
This level expects full control in all groomed terrain as a minimum.
Expert skiing and instruction at leadership level.
I ski with precision in varied snow and terrain, including race and freeride conditions, and give demos at exam level. I am also training in coaching logic, scenario delivery, diagnostics, and coaching at leadership level.
The minimum requirement is confident performance in varied conditions; I may already ski at or near exam level.
Ongoing development beyond formal certification.
I am refining my skiing in varied terrain and snow types, building demos at elite level, and developing coaching logic, diagnostics, and leadership training.
This level is for instructors seeking continued growth beyond Level 4. The minimum requirement is skiing at full Level 4 standard; this track is open ended.
Selecting the correct level ensures that your training aligns with your current technical ability and development goals. It allows your coach to deliver precise, progressive, and high quality sessions, maintaining the standard expected within the SnowElite Collective.
What if I’m between two levels?
If you’re unsure, choose the lower level. It’s easier to progress within a session than to struggle. If needed, contact us before booking to discuss your level.
Can I switch levels once I arrive?
In a private lesson, your coach can adapt the session as you progress. For camps, clinics and group training, choose your level when booking. Moving to another group may not be possible.
Can I follow the SnowElite Collective Pathway even if I don’t plan to become an instructor?
Yes. The Collective Pathway is ideal for anyone who wants a structured approach to improving their technique over time. Many clients follow it purely for personal development or technical mastery.
Are SnowElite Snowsports levels ever used within the Collective?
Yes. In the early stages, Collective coaches may refer to the Snowsports levels to set clear technical targets. But the Collective Pathway includes deeper coaching, progression, and goals beyond standard lessons.
How are the Snowsports and Collective levels connected?
The SnowElite Snowsports levels describe technical ability in a clear way that anyone can understand and are often used within SnowElite Collective training to set movement benchmarks. The Collective Pathway builds on this with deeper coaching, structured progression, and elements focused on teaching beyond standard lesson levels.
What if I improve quickly during the session?
That’s great. Our coaching is designed to adapt. Whether you’re in a group or private session, your coach will adjust activities to match your progression so you continue improving at your pace.
